Getting Started Guide

Welcome to the OpenDaylight community!

The OpenDaylight Project is a collaborative open source project that aims to accelerate adoption of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) for a more transparent approach that fosters new innovation and reduces risk. 

For Users

The third open source software release “Lithium” is available for download.  For interested technical users, we have Mailing Lists available for announcements and community support, as well as a Q&A Forum.

Community Labs

As the OpenDaylight platform and ecosystem continue to grow, so does the need for testing and integration to ensure interoperability between all the components.  Please visit the Community Labs page to learn more.

For Developers

The best way to get started with the OpenDaylight project is to review the documentation that is present on the OpenDaylight Wiki, use the #opendaylight IRC channel on, and join the Mailing Lists for controller and additional components in which you are interested.

To gain access to any of the developer resources, you must first create an account to become an active participant in the OpenDaylight developer community. Once you have completed this step, you will have access to all of the developer resources.  For a list of those resources, please see the Developer Tools page.


Companies and organizations may join at any time and anyone can participate, as OpenDaylight is an open source software project. Companies and organizations interested in formal membership in the project should contact submit a request for information on the membership page.
