We’re Hosting an OpenDaylight HackFest in Japan!

The OpenDaylight Project has quickly grown to become a global community, with more than 250 contributors working to advance open SDN and NFV from all corners of the world. This includes 11 ambassadors worldwide and OpenDaylight User Groups (ODLUG) in six cities across three countries. We are excited to host our first OpenDaylight HackFest in Japan in less than two weeks, and the good news is that it’s free to attend.

The event will take place on Wednesday, October 29 co-located with the SDN Japan event in Tokyo. (Note: You don’t have to be registered for SDN Japan to attend our HackFest.) This is the perfect opportunity for developers to meet one another and get hands-on technical content for building SDN applications on the OpenDaylight platform. Participants will also learn about key aspects of the OpenDaylight controller including the OpenFlow Plugin Architecture and bugfix coaching sessions.

Local OpenDaylight Ambassador Masashi Kudo will be there to answer questions and help those new to the community get connected with others and start contributing to the project. He will also be coordinating a Japan OpenDaylight User Group in January 2015 for those in the area who are interested in regular meet-ups with the community. To get involved or learn more, feel free to email Masashi Kudo.

For those who are attending SDN Japan, OpenDaylight executive director Neela Jacques will keynote on Oct. 30 at 10:00 am where he will talk about the importance of open source in networking and how collaborative development is accelerating SDN adoption.

The OpenDaylight community is leading the way to advancing SDN and NFV through open source best practices and allowing users to focus on the real innovation. The community recently released Helium, the project’s second software release, aimed at developers and users who are progressing on their journey to SDN. The most unique thing about Helium is what it signifies for the industry -- the shift to openness in networking. But for the industry to truly accelerate adoption of SDN, we have more work to do.

That’s why we’re excited for OpenDaylight to come to Japan. We hope to see you at the HackFest and join us in advancing open SDN and NFV!
