OpenDaylight Coming to Edinburgh on October 22

The OpenDaylight Project is hosting its second OpenDaylight Mini-Summit on October 22, 2013 co-located with CloudOpen and LinuxCon in Edinburgh. This is an opportunity to understand the OpenDaylight architecture as well as some of the core technology components, as described by members of the community, developers and project leaders. One pass gets attendees into CloudOpen, LinuxCon and the OpenDaylight Mini-Summit. Register now and get 30% off with promo code LCEPRM30.

We are pleased to announce the following sessions:

An Introduction to OpenDaylight's First Release: Chris Wright, Technical Director of SDN at Red Hat, will describe SDN and the problems it solves, how OpenDaylight came to be and provide technical insight behind the project’s architecture including key features and components included within the first release.

OpenDaylight in Practice: This discussion will be led by Giovanni Meo, Technical Leader in the Data Center Business Group at Cisco. Giovanni will explain what the OpenDaylight "controller" project aims to deliver and how the goals are achieved. He will also provide a detailed overview of OpenDaylight controller components such as the Service Abstraction Layer (SAL).

Network Virtualization Support in OpenDaylight: Network virtualization is an important application of SDN, and a number of virtualization technologies have been brought to OpenDaylight to support this important use case. In this talk, Kostas Katrinis, Research Staff Member in IBM Research for Ireland, will provide a brief overview of each virtualization project and summarize their similarities, differences and trade-offs.

Virtual Tenant Network (VTN) - Network Virtualization on OpenDaylight: OpenDaylight’s VTN technology addresses common configuration challenges by abstracting the controller from the physical infrastructure and its individual components. Peer Hasselmeyer, Senior Solution Architect at NEC Europe, will lead an in-depth discussion surrounding VTN abstractions, the components providing them and the end-user benefits to OpenDaylight’s networking infrastructure.

You can find more details on the OpenDaylight events page. See you in two weeks!

In 2012, The Linux Foundation introduced a new annual technical conference, CloudOpen, designed to provide a collaboration and education space to advance the open cloud. CloudOpen Europe is a conference celebrating and exploring the open source projects, technologies and companies who make up the cloud. It’s built on a belief that open works: for users, for industry and for technology. CloudOpen Europe brings together the open source projects, products and companies that are driving the cloud and big data ecosystems today, along with best practices from the world of traditional open source.
