OpenDaylight Project Announces Keynotes and Program for OpenDaylight Summit in July

Networking community comes together to accelerate the implementation of a common platform for SDN and NFV

SAN FRANCISCO, March 31, 2015 – The OpenDaylight Project, a community-led and industry-supported open source platform to advance Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), today announced the keynotes and the full program for the annual OpenDaylight Summit taking place in Santa Clara, Calif., July 27-31, 2015. The opening day keynote will be delivered by Al Blackburn, vice president, Domain 2.0 architecture and planning, AT&T who will speak on the company’s software-centric network and the role of open source and open systems.

The Summit brings together users, developers and the SDN community to discuss, debate and demonstrate the latest technologies and trends in open SDN. With OpenDaylight’s third software release ‘Lithium’ coming in June, the Summit provides a forum for enterprises and service providers to explore the latest release, learn how it is being tested in production and get hands-on support for implementing their own Proofs-of-Concept (PoCs). Hear directly from developers about what OpenDaylight is doing to support a range of use cases such as network virtualization, multi-layer orchestration, NFV and others, and give the community direct feedback on which use cases matter most.

Confirmed keynote speakers include:

  • Margaret Chiosi, distinguished network architect, AT&T and Brian Freeman, distinguished member of technical staff, AT&T.

  • John Healy, general manager, SDN division, network platforms division, Intel Corporation.

  • Neela Jacques, executive director, OpenDaylight.

  • Phil McKinney, president and chief executive officer, CableLabs.

  • Gee Rittenhouse, senior vice president/general manager, Cisco.

  • Prodip Sen, chief technology officer, HP’s NFV business unit.

  • Brocade will be presenting a keynote, speaker being determined.

  • In a keynote panel, moderated by Neela Jacques; Mark Collier, chief operating officer, OpenStack; Dan Pitt, executive director, Open Networking Foundation and Prodip Sen, board chair, OPNFV will share the benefits of open source collaboration in delivering end-to-end solutions that solve real-world networking issues for users.

  • Members of the OpenDaylight Advisory Group will present a keynote panel discussing their experiences and feedback for the OpenDaylight community.

The Summit will feature more than 50 sessions and hands-on tutorials including:

  • Best Practices and Pitfalls for Building Products out of OpenDaylight by Colin Dixon, chair OpenDaylight Technical Steering Committee and principal engineer at Brocade.

  • Carrier Use Cases with OpenDaylight by Gal Mainzer, engineering manager and Ariel Noy, chief technology officer from ConteXtream.

  • Deploying OpenDaylight and OpenFlow into an Existing Network by Steven Noble, founder, Router Analysis.

  • OpenConfig: An Industry Collaboration to Enable Programmable Network Management by Anees Shaikh, network architect, Google.

  • Panel: Defining Policy Frameworks for Cloud Environments led by Mike Dvorkin, distinguished engineer at Cisco.

Co-located at the event on July 30-31, 2015 is the OpenDaylight Design Summit where the developer community will review Lithium learnings, discuss potential applications and determine use cases on which to focus. The community will also explore networking hot topics such as containers, application policy and network security.

OpenDaylight Summit is made possible with the generous support of Platinum sponsors Brocade, Cisco, HP and Intel.

"We are seeing strong interest, engagement and deployments from end users," said Neela Jacques, executive director, OpenDaylight. "It is clear that there is a strong need across end users and developers for one common platform for SDN and NFV onto which to build applications. The OpenDaylight Summit is the world's premier event for the doers in the industry, facilitating real education, exploration and deep engagement in the technology that is required for the next generation of networks."

Early registration closes April 3, 2015 after which the conference price will increase from $500 to $650. Discounted hotel rates are also available until July 5, 2015.
