CA Technologies, IIX, Megaport and Spirent Join the OpenDaylight Project

48 companies and over 300 developers have united to advance open source SDN

SAN FRANCISCO, February 10, 2015  – The OpenDaylight Project, a community-led and industry-supported open source platform to advance Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), today announced that CA Technologies, IIX, Megaport and Spirent have joined the project to support the development of one common and open SDN and NFV platform that can be leveraged by all.

“The growth of the community is really quite astonishing ‒ already, over 300 developers globally are working together on OpenDaylight to solve real world problems for end users and deliver the network agility and automation our industry needs,” said Neela Jacques, executive director, OpenDaylight. “With more and more end users looking to use ODL in their real-world networks, we’re seeing and broader range of technologies and players getting involved. These new members bring key management, security, and testing capabilities to the ODL community."

More about the newest members:

CA Technologies creates software that fuels transformation for companies and enables them to seize the opportunities of the application economy. From planning to development to management and security, CA is working with companies worldwide to change the way we live, transact and communicate – across mobile, private and public cloud, distributed and mainframe environments.

“As a result of the application economy and the explosion of mobile services, the demands on the networks of enterprises and services providers have increased exponentially,” said John Smith, enterprise management, CA Technologies. “Software Defined Networking is one of the key ways to evolve the network to be more dynamic and responsive to the constantly changing needs of today’s organizations. CA Technologies is delighted to collaborate with OpenDaylight to operationalize new networking technologies that will help further evolve the SDN framework.”

IIX Inc., the global software-defined interconnection company, is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California. The company's SDI™ platform enables programmable interconnection between networks that allow customers to gain more control, improve security, optimize network performance and extend network reach across the globe. IIX customers include content providers, data center providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), carriers and other enterprises globally.

“Organizations leverage our global software-defined interconnection platform to securely and directly connect to their cloud partners. We are excited to contribute to OpenDaylight and are committed to supporting the development of SDN and NFV,” said Paul Gampe, chief technology officer, IIX. “We are creating an ecosystem and an alternative to traditional networking and believe open source is a proven way to add value to that ecosystem.”

Megaport launched services in 2014 to create a new paradigm for networks and cloud services to interconnect – The Megaport Platform. Designed to be the first, 100 percent software-based communications provider, Megaport now provides on-demand, elastic connectivity to over 100 network and cloud services providers from a portal, a mobile app, or an API. With plans to expand in Asia, Europe, and the United States in 2015, the Megaport Platform will service over 25 major markets around the world.

“Our mission is to place control of the network design and behavior directly into the hands of our users,” said Brooke Mouland, CMO at Megaport.  “Having an open, interoperable platform at the core is crucial for us to deliver real time services to the Enterprise’s key data assets so our users can avoid the time, cost and complexity of deploying connectivity the old telco way.”

Spirent Communications, is the global leader in developing innovative test solutions that allow IT and communications industries to evaluate the performance, agility and security of the latest technologies, infrastructure and applications being deployed worldwide.

“Spirent’s mission is to help accelerate the adoption of SDN technologies in Service Provider, Data Center, and Enterprise environments. However, testing and performance validation are key to ensuring scalability, reliability when SDN solutions like OpenDaylight are deployed,” said Malathi Malla, director, product marketing, Spirent Communications. “We are excited to collaborate with OpenDaylight community and lend our expertise in optimizing the OpenDaylight controller’s capabilities without impacting quality of service and experience.”
