6WIND, Avaya and H3C Join the OpenDaylight Project
Member organizations join industry’s largest open source SDN and NFV project to advance code development and adoption
SAN FRANCISCO, April 30, 2014 – The OpenDaylight Project, a community-led and industry-supported open source platform to advance Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), today announced that 6WIND, Avaya and H3C are joining the project to advance the development and widespread deployment of open SDN and NFV. Project membership has doubled since launching 12 months ago and the OpenDaylight community has grown to more than 170 developers.
“There is a critical mass forming around open source and open systems in the networking industry. People know openness is the right path forward for SDN and NFV and that it will pave the way for real innovation in IT,” said Neela Jacques, executive director, OpenDaylight. “It’s been an amazing first year for OpenDaylight and we look forward to a really productive second year as the community grows and evolves the OpenDaylight platform. 6WIND delivers commercial software that solves performance challenges for network vendors in telecom, enterprise and cloud infrastructure markets. OpenDaylight represents the largest community of developers collaborating to deliver an open, common architecture for network programmability. Because it is open source, OpenDaylight can be a core component within any SDN- and NFV-based architecture, and anyone can use, modify and contribute to the codebase. The community has begun work on OpenDaylight’s second open source software release, Helium, leading up to the OpenDaylight Developer Design Forum event aimed at the developer community taking place September 29-30 in Santa Clara.
