A10 Networks, Midokura and Pantheon Technologies Join the OpenDaylight Project

New members help accelerate the development of a common Software-Defined Networking platform for service providers and enterprise users

SAN FRANCISCO, October 3, 2013 – The OpenDaylight Project, a community-led and industry-supported open source framework to advance Software-Defined Networking (SDN), today announced that A10 Networks, Midokura and Pantheon Technologies have joined the project to accelerate adoption, foster new innovation and create a more open and transparent approach to SDN.

SDN enables network engineers and administrators to respond quickly to ever-changing enterprise and carrier demands, improve performance and reduce costs. OpenDaylight provides a single, multi-vendor open source SDN platform that will reduce operational and technological complexities found in traditional network infrastructures. The project’s first release, called Hydrogen, is due in December and will be a flexible and extensible SDN platform that developers can utilize, contribute to and build commercial products and technologies upon, allowing the flexibility and adaptability modern networks require.

A10 Networks provides next generation application delivery controllers (ADC), networking and security solutions. The company makes high-performance products that help organizations accelerate, optimize and secure their applications. Its flagship products hold No. 1 ADC market share in Japan and No. 3 worldwide, are deployed by nearly 3,000 customers and have earned a reputation for reliable, scalable and energy-efficient performance. Headquartered in Silicon Valley, A10 Networks has offices in more than 20 countries.

“Establishing an open, reference framework for programmability and control will give users the flexibility and choice to deploy SDN as they please,” said Raj Jalan, chief technology officer, A10 Networks. “We are contributing to OpenDaylight to ensure customers have that choice and the ability to rapidly deploy new network services and applications.”

Midokura is a global startup focused on network virtualization. Founded in 2010, Midokura is the creator of MidoNet, a complete overlay network virtualization solution that integrates with cloud platforms such as OpenStack. The company’s vision is to provide network infrastructure to reduce physical network and management costs for its customers. Midokura has offices in the United States, Japan and Europe.

“We have a long standing history of working with open source platforms to encourage widespread adoption of network virtualization,” said Dan Mihai Dumitriu, chief executive officer and co-founder, Midokura. “OpenDaylight has done a great job uniting a growing and diverse community of companies, individuals and academia. We’re looking forward to collaborating with this group to further advance SDN and work to introduce multi-layer traffic engineering and troubleshooting tools, which we believe will be key for widespread adoption of SDN in the industry.”

Pantheon Technologies is an international provider of information technology services and support. Pantheon also specializes in software research and development for networking. Other areas of focus include deployment and maintenance of software and hardware products, consulting and development services for clients. Pantheon offers full-tailored development of products/systems through networking and other industry sectors.

“Pantheon’s goal is to provide customers with customizable and flexible solutions with added value,” said Daniel Bartos, account manager, Pantheon Technologies. “OpenDaylight will allow companies to provide customers with choice and flexibility when navigating the future of software-defined networking.”

“One barometer of OpenDaylight’s success is the diversity of industry leaders that are participating and contributing code and resources,” said Inder Gopal, board chair, OpenDaylight Project. “Member and community contributions continue to accelerate the advancement of SDN.”
